About Us

Terasol LABS is a leading plant biotechnology company focused on the development of biodiesel crops. Our primary goal is to discover and develop high yielding crops that generate the most bio-energy per hectare of land. We are currently working with jatropha, castor and sweet sorghum.

  • We have identified and developed new elite varieties of feedstock optimized for production under different agro-climatic conditions, economic and social factors.
  • We provide large quantities of the highest quality planting materials of elite varieties through pure line selections, hybrids, clonal selections and tissue culture propagation for nursery development and for setting up larger plantation initiatives.
  • We are developing processes to create high value uses of feedstock and biodiesel production byproducts such as jatropha and castor cake.

At Terasol LABS, we have a strong culture of innovation and development. We have developed one of the largest germplasm banks for jatropha. We have worked to identify and cultivate accessions of the jatropha crop that correspond with various global agro-climatic conditions. We have done so through close collaborations with plantations and research centers across Brazil and India. We have also developed clonal propagation of jatropha from global selections through our advanced techniques of plant tissue culture development. We produce jatropha plantlets through axillary shoot proliferation and direct organogenesis. Through the use of tissue culture we are further developing our germplasm bank and developing hybrids and clonal improvements.

Vision
A change is necessary…

  • The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes has almost doubled in the last 30 years.
  • Malaria has spread to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level.
  • The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled over the past decade.
  • In order to prevent the worst consequences of global warming, an 80% decrease in U.S. global warming pollution is required by 2050.
  • The US fire season has increased by 78 days over the past 20 years, which has been linked to increased temperatures and earlier snowmelt.
  • 200 million people around the world could be displaced by 2080 due to rising sea levels and subsequent flooding.

Our Vision
By applying advanced plant science technologies to energy crops, our vision is to reduce global dependence on fossil fuels. It has become apparent to the global community that cooperative change is necessary for quality of life, but also for our survival. We are dedicated to creating cleaner forms of energy as a means of protecting our environment, while creating new opportunities for independent farmers and rural communities.

History
Terasol LABS was born out of the collaboration between Terasol Energy and a group of scientists with world-renowned expertise in the biology of oilseed crops.

Locations
We are the leading global company focused on biodiesel crop science. We are based in Chennai, India with offices in Brazil and the United States.
